Mellon Institute
Formed in 1911, the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research was one of the first permanent partnerships to unite scientific research, university education, and commercial technology development. The institute moved in 1937 to this landmark building, the design of which was inspired by classic Greek architecture. In 1967, Mellon Institute merged with Carnegie Institute of Technology to form Carnegie Mellon University.
Today, Mellon Institute houses a variety of laboratories and offices, including those of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, a joint venture of the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Westinghouse Electric Company.
