Log Cabin
Moved to the Pittsburgh campus in conjunction with the University’s bicentennial celebration in 1987, this restored log cabin symbolizes Pitt’s humble origins as the “Pittsburgh Academy” just 11 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Today’s 132-acre campus, with nearly 100 academic, research, and administrative buildings and residence halls, is a far cry from the school’s first home. The Pittsburgh campus is also an important part of the city’s Oakland neighborhood, center of the region’s academic life and home to several prominent educational and cultural institutions.
