Fraternities and Sororities

There are 35 "Greek" organizations — about two dozen fraternities and more than a dozen sororities — at the University of Pittsburgh.

An institution that predates the Revolutionary War, college fraternities and sororities help students meet new friends, get involved in social events and community activities, and network with alumni. Last year, the annual "Greek Week" fund drive raised $25,000 for pediatric AIDS research.

According to a 2004 story in Pitt Magazine, about 10 percent of Pitt undergrads participate in Greek organizations.
