Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower and BST South
The Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower and BST South are located in the heart of Oakland’s medical community. Built in 1990, this complex houses offices and laboratories for 21 departments and programs, including an entire floor of laboratories devoted to the research of the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute.
These interconnected skyscrapers sit just across the street from the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine and house labs for the advanced biomedical research for which the University and the affiliated University of Pittsburgh Medical Center are famous.
In 2006, the original BST was renamed in honor of Starzl, the liver transplant pioneer who has taught and worked at Pitt for more than a generation.
