Hillman Library

The main University library, Hillman Library, has five floors, seating for 1,539 students, and holds 1.9 million volumes.

Construction was begun on Hillman Library in 1964. Dedicated on September 6, 1968, it is the largest of the 17 libraries on campus.

"PITTcat" is the University’s computerized card catalog which allows students to access all University of Pittsburgh holdings, including those on regional campuses. A related database called "E-ZBorrow" allows students to search many other libraries, including those of Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne universities, and even Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the region's predominant public system.

There are nearly 7 million total materials catalogued in the Pitt library system.

The Pittsburgh campus is also home to 17 specialty libraries, including the Barco Law Library, the Falk Library of Health Sciences, the Music Library, Langley Library, the Mathematics Library, and the Physics Library.
