Computing Labs
The University of Pittsburgh operates seven computing labs on the Pittsburgh campus available to all students. They are located in Alumni Hall, Benedum Hall, the Cathedral of Learning, David Lawrence Hall, Hillman Library, Posvar Hall, and Sutherland Hall. Each computing lab includes a mix of Intel-based PC's, Apple iMacs, Unix and Linux workstations, and media stations capable of scanning.
An extensive collection of software packages, including word processing, graphics, statistical analysis, and engineering software are available. Electronic mail and Internet access are also provided.
The University of Pittsburgh is a partner in the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, which is one of eight such centers nationwide. With NSF funding, it is currently assembling the world's most powerful supercomputer dedicated to open scientific research. PSC already operates several supercomputing-class machines.
